Burner phones, Card check, Frying a CVV, ETC.

So recently I been hesistant on buying CVV's because every time i check it it says invalid card. It is possible to fry the card just by trying to add it as a payment method on a website/app right? I've also heard around it's possible to give your burner device a "dirty fingerprint" basically meaning if you try to card off of it whether it's successful or not basically making the device no good to operate off of anymore. Wondering was that also possible?
