Sites with good fraud protection like MaxMind system can find that you are running VPN -> Proxy connection with WIMIA test, you can use a good socks5 with high anonymous.
If WIMIA is true your fraud score will kick higher and so it'll affect your winning for sure
Run VPN on your HOST and use Proxifier on Guest Machine to connect to socks5.

Yeah it's okay to use, Just Make sure your traffic is encrypted via VPN tunnel.
If you concern about more security and privacy get a "DD-WRT Router"
This router allow you connect VPN on Router Level, So all your devices traffic which is connected to this router will be send via your VPN encrypted tunnel.
although it's not really essential. I'm saying for a information.
